I’m trying to pay off all my debt and dig myself out of this hole I’ve created. I heard somewhere that if you offer creditors a certain percent of what you owe them they will take it. Is this true? And if so, how much?

I’m a recent college graduate with a steady income and a student loan that is not in default. I’m looking to lease an apartment, and I heard that landlords are not allowed to count student loan debt against a person when evaluating their credit and debt. Is this true?

Over billed and Distressed asked:
I have a disputed debt associated with my small business and they now have a collection agency calling my place of business. I now know I am not protected by the fair debt collection act but there has to be some way to stop them from disrupting my business.
Obviously, Emgee does not know or understand what disputed means. I have already paid the bill. So obviously that is not the solution. But thanks for your completely useless answer.

I am really bad with paying bills and my credit has taken a hit these past couple years. I make enough money where I should be able to pay everything with no problem but for some reason I continue to struggle. Do you think a debt consolidation would be best for me and to help me improve my credit score? Does this really work?

I know the normal debt, remains on the credit report for 7 yrs after the first delinquency. My questions is, if this lender sells your account to another lender, after say 2 yrs, does the 7 yrs start over with the new lender? Or, does the debt drop off your record from all the lenders (who participated in the same acct), in the 7 yrs?
